This week’s episode is a bit longer, and somewhat more rambly. I’ve taken a page from Nathan Lowell’s podcast Talking on my Morning Walk. This week’s episode was recorded while I was out walking my two-mile route near my house. It’s a little noisy, and there is a certain amount of heavy breathing, but what’s not to like?
This week we have a promo for the Kickstarter project for The Dark Wife Audiobook!
I’m still counting down to Balticon!

This is so cool, Doc.
My “rig” is pretty simple. I have a Blackberry Bold 9000 with a Jabra Jawbone blue-tooth earbud. I use the native Blackberry “Voice Note” software to record. The AMR files translate to MP3s when I get home and load them into my computer for post process.
Usually I walk a mile and talk a mile. So I start out, get a little warmed up, and often listen to a podcast in the first 18 minutes or so. There’s a corner on my route that marks the halfway/one-mile mark and I turn on the recorder then and just ramble along (in both senses of the word).
This morning’s episode will be 339 and the anniversary date is March 25th, so you’re right. It’s coming up soon. To date, I’ve walked 640 miles while Talking On My Morning Walk.
Thanks for the shout out and I’m glad to have inspired you! 🙂
I’m glad you liked the podcast, Nathan!
I’m doing something pretty similar. I’ve got my iPhone with the original earbuds with the mic and the remote controls. I use Apple’s voice note app to record. I actually also use the Nike+ GPS app to track my progress on my walk, which gives me an audio status every 5 minutes. Unfortunately, the spoken prompts from Nike+ don’t get recorded with the voice note app. I just started recording, started my walk, and started talking as I went. The recording actually cut off sooner than I though it had when I got home.
Like you, the audio comes out as an MP3 when I sync my phone. I take the audio, convert it to WAV, run it through Levelelator, then give it to my wife to edit. She cuts out long pauses and spoken editing notes and drops in the things that need to be dropped in. And she stacks the bloopers at the end.
I think you may have surpassed me, even thought I’ve been walking a year longer than you have. It is hard for me to tell. For a long time I was doing my runs at work, where I couldn’t use Nike+. I’ve got about 405 miles logged in Nike+. Of course, I was also walking for a year before I started this podcast. Lately you’ve definitely been walking more frequently than I have. Keep it up!
